I Kissed a Girl - Part 1 of 3 - E.T.

Scandal, illicit love affairs, red/white/blue ensembles—if that doesn’t smell like politics, I don’t know what does.  Kurt dabbles with the idea of rigging the senior class president votes, but decides against it.  Enter Rachel and her inability to count past 4.  She stuffs the boxes with a bazillion more ballots than there are seniors, and is subsequently suspended from school and Sectionals.

Coach Beiste’s budding love affair with Coach Cooter comes to a screeching halt when Sue gets it into her head that some man candy is the key to winning the election.  It doesn’t work.  Burt Hummel wins!  Meanwhile, Puck offers some horizontal comfort to Shelby, but cray-cray Quinn declares she wants to get preggo with Puck again.  And after some much needed musical support from both glee clubs, Santana finally comes out to her family about her sexuality and her relationship with Brittany—or should I say Madame President? And that's what you missed on Glee!

Katy might’ve been all about the Extra-Terrestrial, but for the kiddos at McKinley, it’s all about Election Time.  Having lost the lead in West Side Story, Kurt is desperate to add “senior class president” to his NYADA application.  And apparently, nothing says “Vote for Kurt” quite like bouffant hair and a bizarre studded pseudo-bandana.

His outfit to serenade Santana isn't much better.

Seriously?  It looks like Kurt's trying to escape from a Snuggie.   And while I can appreciate how put-together Blaine is, his look is a wee bit reminiscent of a barbershop pole.

I think I like him better in casual wear.  You can never go wrong with a mustard cardigan and apart from the bedroom eyes he’s making at Kurt in the last picture, he looks so sporty-chic in this track jacket.

Now, here’s the Kurt I know and love.  The piping on the shirt makes the white pop and I like the collar on the vest.  The belt seems a bit awkward, but I’ll take it over the Snuggie snafu.

Kurt usually looks his best when his outfits are a bit more tailored and refined, but this poncho and jeggings combo does look awfully cozy.  And I don’t know about you, whenever something bums me out, like losing a class election or the lead in the school musical, I like to get into my sweats, too…all that’s missing is a pint of Ben & Jerry’s.

As his biggest campaign supporter, Rachel must be totally swamped because she forgot what November in Ohio is like.  You know, cold enough that she could be forgiven for stealing Kurt’s half-turtleneck to stay warm.   At first glance, I thought I liked this dress (it was the pink and I can’t resist a good bow), but after staring at it for another ten seconds, it’s a bit too cutesy and Easter Sunday for me.

I like that she did go for something a bit darker…

...I just wish it were a darker sweater.  Or parka.

Despite the fact that she’s going to get pneumonia in five minutes, I really like this outfit.  The charcoal color of the dress contrasts nicely with the white detail along the bodice and I love that she’s wearing a red beret to lend some color to the outfit.  But it’s a bit ironic that she’ll wear a hat but not tights…

Oh, thank God, she found a sweater.  Red really is a good color on her, the pattern along the hem gives it a fun retro-feel, and I love how flouncy the skirt is.

With his girlfriend scheming, his step-bro running for senior class president, and his stepfather running for Congress, it’s no wonder Finn doesn’t have time to think about his wardrobe.  So it looks like Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are for blue outfits.

And Tuesdays and Thursdays are for flannel.

And on the other side of the ballot is Brittany and her first lady, Santana.  They’re back in their boring Cheerios uniforms, but after-hours Santana jazzes things up with her edgy-feminine style.  The fitted blazer and printed black dress is a great combo, but what I’m totally digging are her ankle boots.

I Kissed a Girl - Part 2 of 3 - Hot n' Cold

First, Cooter was way into Beiste.  Now, he’s totally going steady with Sue.  And before, Quinn had a thing for Puck.  Then, she didn’t.  But, now she does again.  Seriously, guys, pick already.  Polos or tracksuits?  Mohawk or no-hawk?

I’m completely Team Polo and while Beiste’s affinity for polo shirts continues to elude me, I can’t really blame her.  She’s a football coach so she can’t strut around in cute dresses a la Pilsbury, which is why I love that she accessorizes with little hoop earrings and rings (they’re probably championship rings, but whatever).

Sue’s tracksuits were pretty standard…

…but she definitely had the best accessory: her little black book, “Sue’s Booty Calls.”

Speaking of booty calls, I was a little surprised when Puck pulled a Pacey Witter and wound up canoodling Shelby.  I guess when you put his charming smirk in one of his hundreds of fitted black shirts and slap a guitar on him, it’s hard to stay away, but that disaster of a mohawk should’ve dissuaded her.  What’s going on?  Why is it leaning to one side?  I know it was Movember, but wrong “mo.”

Shelby generally has a great sense of style and I love that she’s equipped for fall with her long-sleeved blouses and boots.  Except, the black v-neck sweater is on the less-remarkable side and the orange skirt is just not a flattering cut—the lone middle pleat leaves her looking wider than she is.

Ah, okay, here we go.  She definitely knows her blouses.  The deep jeweled blue and green tones compliment her so well and I love the ruffle and knot details on them.  So stylin’.

Completing this entirely inappropriate love triangle is Quinn and her bevy of cardigans.  I love a good cardigan and think that this little lavender number softens what looks to be a more modern print.

She switches things up with a cream bolero and what I first thought was a camo-print dress.  It wasn’t until I pulled the screen cap that I realized, “Oh!  Those are flowers…ish.”   What I really like, though, is her belt.  Like I said, can’t resist a good bow.  It’s always fun to add a bit of hardware to an otherwise totally feminine outfit.

This look is a little too summery for me right now and I surely wouldn’t have paired them with what I think are brogue-like wedges.  I like the shoe—I really like the shoe—but not with that dress.

While she’s sans cardigan here, I like the asymmetrical neckline and little ruffle accent.   I also like her evil eyes—no one can hand out a death stare quite like Quinn.

While not embroiled in some kind of love scandal, Emma and Will are definitely hot n cold—fashionably speaking, of course.  Emma is, as usual, spot on by adding some whimsy to a plain red sweater with a cute little fish brooch (any good Red Sea jokes out there?) and her hair looks amazing.

And this. Uff.  She is just perfect.  Perfect cut, perfect fit, perfect accessories, perfect color—I love that she’s always in something bright!

And then, we have…gray.

I see a little progress with the mixing of the printed tie and the gingham shirt, but this brown jacket has got to go.

No, not yet?  Going to hang on to it for a bit longer, huh?

Well…at least the tie is nice.

I Kissed a Girl - Part 3 of 3 - Mannequin

While everyone was out running amok, the rest of the New Directions and the Troubletones had a lot of spare time for costume changes much like…wait for it…mannequins!  Can you tell it’s been a long day?

In a surprise twist, Artie took the lead in outfit changes.  So much so, that at one point, he ran out of sweater vests.  We also learn that aside from owning more than one kind of sweater, he’s particularly fond of the yellow color family.

And while not entirely yellow or golden, there are smatterings of the color in these two vests.  Who doesn’t love that bicycle?

But the winner, by far, is this little number.  I get a huge kick out of the fact that there’s a map knitted into the sweater.   How fun!

And not to be totally outdone, Rory had a number of costume changes, too.  Those must have been some heavy suitcases he lugged from Ireland.   Nothing out of the ordinary, but it looks like he’s a fan of the button-up shirt.

Mike stays pretty on-trend with his comfy cardigan, fancy vest, and super cool letterman jacket.

I like that the guys in glee club aren’t afraid to wear ties.  And true to form, Mercedes sticks to the statement pieces—studs, bangles, and big earrings.   And a hat for good measure.

It looks like another episode theme is the vest.

Mercedes, you are too fabulous to be wearing things with words.  LOL?  Sexy?  No.  And no, don’t wear something that says “no.”

Tan printed leggings, a purple tunic, a black jacket, and gold jewelry.  Everything works except for the pants but at least she’s properly attired for the weather.   I’ll give her that.

Sugar’s wardrobe is just as outrageous as Mercedes’s, but somehow, she manages to pull it all together.  Case in point?  I’m not crazy about faux fur or the bandeau, but I really like this look on her.

I love that she’s wearing so many bright colors and going to town on the jewelry.  I guess we know what she and Mercedes bonded over.

Finally, someone is wearing tights!  Bonus points because they’re hot pink.

Not many people can pull off a high-waisted trouser, but Sugar can.  Pair it with a cute hat and done.

I’m really glad that Tina’s embraced all the colors, but can we please not add a pilgrim collar to every single outfit?

Seriously, how many dickies can one girl have?  And what on earth would compel her to pair green and mustard boots with a pink dress?

Apparently there’s a collar for every holiday.

Now her collars are exploding.

But, despite Tina's raging addiction to questionable necklines, Rachel's inability compete in Sectionals, and a sneaking suspicion that Quinn has Beth and blackmail on the brain what's really going to make things interesting is Sam's return.  Oh, and did you notice that he's moonlighting as a stripper?  Bring on the sequined boxer briefs reviews!

Mini-Recap: I Kissed a Girl

Here's what you missed on Glee: Santana is moments away from being outed as part of an attack ad on Sue and Finn figures he'll fix it by getting both glee clubs to sing lady songs. Kurt almost wins the election, but it turns out Rachel stuffed the ballot box and she's now suspended from participating in sectionals. Brittany is senior class president with a pixie stick campaign and Kurt's trying to fill out a NYADA application without any major accomplishments. Sue tries to convince everyone she's no friend of Ellen and win the election by stealing Bieste's new boyfriend. She gets the guy, but not the votes. And Puck and Shelby take things a little too far. And that's what you missed on Glee.

Song of the Night: k.d. lang's Constant Craving was awesome coming from Santana and Kurt. A little odd coming from Shelby.

Santana's Snark: "With all the horrible crap I've had to endure, I get to add that."

How Sue Sees It: "It's a reporter from USA Today. The newspaper for people who can't read."

Rachel's Finn's Melodramatic Solo of the Week: An acoustic, slowed down version of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun? Nononono.

Outfit of the Week: If only Rachel and Quinn didn't ruin their outfits with their shoes. Otherwise, Rachel's white dress with the full skirt and some bold colours were fantastic. Although I would have liked to see more of Emma's outfit - it was probably Anthropologie perfection.

Worst Outfit of the Week: While Sugar's 60s inspired outfits were hideous, it was Kurt in a one armed poncho that brought the real fugly.

Tracksuit count: 4

Tune in on Friday when we get a full recap from Kristina.
