For Whom the Bells Toll - Part 1 of 3 - The (perceived) Liars

Episode Synopsis:They say with information, comes power. This certainly rang true for our Pretty Little Liars this episode. Armed with the USB they found in Ali's old lunch box, they watch the videos (which they later regret), confront Jenna about what they saw (which is a situation Jenna regrets), and decide to confront Ian as well (which they really, really regret). However, Jenna warns Ian, which confirms they're working together. Oh and Jenna's also working with Garrett! Will this show ever run out of twists? Ian corners Spencer in a church (why did you run up the stairs, Spence, why?!), proceeds to almost kill her, before a figure in black (A??) pushes him off the platform instead…only when the police arrive, Ian's body is nowhere to be found…
In other news, Spencer and Toby are adorable, Lucas is adorable and brings adorable Caleb back to Rosewood, and Ezra is adorably apologetic when his ex-fiancée, Jackie, shows up. Melissa and Spencer get into an "accident", and the fate of Melissa's unborn child is unknown.
Oh, and Emily may move to Texas. I'm guessing Pam will want to move to Texas even more after this fiasco.

Love the loose, drape-y, striped sweater Aria's wearing. I swear, the loungewear on this show is beyond enviable.

I love this outfit. In theory. Dark skinny jeans paired with ankle boots, striped sweater, and a statement necklace? Her bag is fantastic as well. But those dark skinny jeans? Yeah, they're actually leather leggings (clearer in the first scene with Ella and Byron). That striped sweater? It's still lovely, but it has the oddest hair (fur?) bits on the shoulders. At first, I thought they were wayward pieces of hair…nope, they're a part of the sweater. And those ankle boots are actually plaid, yikes.

But the necklace is still gorgeous! Love the chunky pieces and the combination of colors.

A slim-fit scooped back teal dress with black lace overlay. Sounds like another winner, right? If only the lace didn't extend past the shorter teal underlay. But I can understand Aria's reasoning behind it. It's sexy, but subtly so (thanks to the length), and perfect for the faculty mixer where her teacher-slash-boyfriend is present.

I do like her simple black coat and the gold chain on her purse - but the real star? Those brooches! Love, love, love.

A little confused on when Aria had a chance to change from her prior outfit to this one…continuity mistake, perhaps? But I do like her printed scarf and grey knit cardigan.

Emily's outfits were more boring than usual this episode. Plain, monotonous henley? Yawn.

Burgundy top and jeans. But is that a hole in her shirt sleeve? Eek! Love the purse, though.

I wish we'd gotten a clearer look at this sweater…if only because I'm pretty sure there's some sparkly thread woven in. What can I say, I do love me some sparkles…

Scruffy Hanna! Complete with loose sweater, leggings as pants (sigh), knee-high socks and - the bane of shoe-lovers everywhere - Uggs.
It's okay, Hanna. Your mother gives good pep-talks and Lucas brings Caleb back (which was incredibly sweet, if I may say so).

Though her mother told her to wear a dress, I love this option as well. Those may be leggings as pants. They may be dark skinny jeans. For my sanity's sake, let's pretend they're the latter. Because the sheer, polka-dotted top with exposed tie-back and shoulder slits? There's so much going on, yet it's simple and adorable. Great chunky necklace as well!

Dark olive green fabulousness. I love the cut, the off-center buttons, the buttons themselves, and the pockets…perfect.

Spencer's preppy loungewear is another ode to the wardrobe department's amazing taste. Cuffed boyfriend jeans, burgundy sweater, checkered shirt, so perfect.

I am not a fan of the plaid shirt and too-long sleeves combo. Nor do I like the leggings as pants (again, sigh) and combat boots (she must have borrowed them from Toby?) combo. But the overall look just works on Spencer. Somehow. It could be the belt, which has a lovely industrial-esque quality to it.

Three-quarter sleeved loose trench? Love. Not when it becomes three layers of sleeves though…

The only male character on the show wearing something interesting! Pale blue button-up, but it's got zippers and shoulder lapels! And interesting pocket detail!
(Apologies for the excess of exclamation marks… it's not every day a male character wears something at least mildly interesting. Plus, I kind of love Toby after seeing this whole Toby/Spencer relationship.)

For Whom the Bells Toll - Part 2 of 3 - The (actual) Liars

Those are definitely dark skinny jeans (unlike the leggings the others are wearing), and the loose dark green top looks great on Jenna. Score one for Jenna!

Love the detailing on the heather grey top, but the girl needs some new sunglasses! She's been wearing the same pair for months now; and I will safely assume this is the first pair she bought after the unfortunate blinding incident. It's a shame Hanna didn't break them in The Slap from episode 1x20.

Did anyone else notice the old-fashioned hospital equipment and open windows with dramatically blowing curtains? Was Jenna convalescing at a 1920s sanatorium?

Confirmed this episode: Ian is beyond creepy. Also confirmed: he likes chinos and uninteresting button-ups.

Mona, Mona, Mona. The girl is all about coordinating. To the point where it's ridiculous. The gold-leaf embossed ruffled top? Cute, especially with that skirt. But her belt also has gold leaf detail, which she paired with the gold purse (which is tacky on it's own, I must say), gold nailpolish (which, again, would look fantastic on its own), and giant lemon-gold cocktail ring. Too much, Mona. Too much.

Ezra does love his plaid. And vests… what is it with high school teachers and vests? Mr. Schue should introduce Mr. Fitz to The YKYLF 12-step Vestaholics Anonymous program.

Hmm, maybe not. He ditched the vest for a nondescript blazer to attend the Montgomery's mixer. I like how the blazer covers up most of the horrid plaid.

For Whom the Bells Toll - Part 3 of 3 - The (non) Liars

I'd love to see Ashley Marin in a color other than black… it's her signature, and everything she wears looks fabulous; but it was lovely to see some color brightening her up last week! Bring back the color for Season 2!

Aria's parents seem to have their signatures as well. Byron's is boring button-ups. Sometimes he wears an equally boring tie. I think the wardrobe department has just given up on him.

Ella's signature? Loose, floral tops and a blazer. If it weren't for the change of color in said floral tops, I would've thought this was the same outfit.

No! Not Jackie! Not the woman who could possibly break up Aria and Ezra! (Apologies, it's the Aria/Ezra shipper in me. The books broke them up to soon, and I love them in the show). In any case, her outfit was perfect for the occasion. Pretty ruffled silk top and gold plated belt.

Judging by Aria's reaction to seeing Jackie, I can only assume she watches Gossip Girl and knows that villans wear grey (see: Juliet, Georgina, Rania).

Fitted blue shirt for Pam. Standard. Fabulous fit, though.

Oh, Lucas, how I missed your adorable dorky-ness. I can't decide if I like Caleb or Lucas better, but I can most definitely say Caleb wins in the wardrobe department (even if we only saw his face this episode). Striped shirt? Ok. Denim jacket? Not ok. I'm kind of hoping he takes up Mona on her offer…his wardrobe can't get much worse, can it?

I wish the top wasn't as loose (Melissa isn't quite that far along yet, right?), but the bell sleeves and barely-there plaid combination is gorgeous.

I also wish we'd been able to see more of this coat! The cowl neck, the color, the fit…it all looks like the beginnings of a great coat.

The printed silk top and solid cardigan combo is awesome on Veronica, and she and Spencer do share a love of pearls.

And that's a wrap for Season One of Pretty Little Liars! But don't worry, YKYLF is starting retro recaps next Monday!   - Jen

Mini Recap: For Whom the Bell Tolls

As soon as we thought we knew who was scheming with who and had narrowed down our "A" suspects, those PLL writers throw in new twists and turns. All I know is that Spencer and Toby are too freakin' cute and I'm jealous.

Drama-rama du jour
I can't even begin to describe...

Best Outfit
I'm ready for a debate but I liked Ezra's red plaid shirt, tie, and vest with those cute little sneakers. He looked adorable!

"A" Message
"It's not over until I say it is. Sleep tight...while you can, bitches."

Current "A" suspect
We now know Ian was Alison's killer, so he can't be A.  So a whole host of characters are back in the mix: Jenna, Garrett, Noel, Lucas, mysterious black hoodie man...

Season 1 Spring Finale recap by Steph on Thursday!
