Je Suis une Amie - Part 1 of 2 - The Lovebirds

Episode Synopsis: Caleb asks Hanna for a "date", but just so he can better his reputation...or is it? However, being the manipulator that she is, Hanna gets some personal info out of him (and not just that Caleb doesn't like light hold hairspray). Spencer volunteers to tutor Toby and I'm sensing she has a secret crush, but then again she could be using her Investigator skills to gather information. Which works, because Toby slips Spencer a secret message. Emily and Paige come to some sort of weird swimming agreement. And in Aria world, she is focusing her efforts on exposing her parent's secret affair.  Ooh la la.

I think Hanna is starting to replace Aria as my favorite dresser and girl crush (some of that may be because she has Caleb's attention, but mostly because she consistently dresses spectacular). And yes, I know, Hanna and Caleb aren't real "lovebirds" yet, I'm sure it's coming, you don't think that moment on the stairs didn't mean anything?

Hanna knows how to layer, put colors together, and accessorize. Killer ring, case-in-point.

May I also mention that Hanna has been carrying that luscious green bag for several weeks now...like a real person would!

I need these boots. ASAP. The buckle and straps detailing + slightly distressed + sensible heel = on my wish list.

See: more great layering. The bright blue (?)(or is it purple?) nail polish accents brilliantly.

Oh Caleb ::sigh::  I would have much rather had just photos of his face, but alas, this is not a pretty face blog, it's a fashion one. So Caleb's rugged, canvas backpack needs attention too!

Ahhh, much better. While this grunge-y look does read a little bit "homeless" (which, technically he is), Caleb totally pulls it off.  If you're going for the grunge, go all the way.

Tyler Blackburn, if your're reading this, will you date me?

He even looks hot pulling his clothes out of the garbage.

Byron Montgomery. A pretty dapper dressing dad. Neutral colors, nothing crazy, but his shirts, pants, and tie all fit wonderfully.

Ella Montgomery, on the other hand, not so much. While this isn't particularly a horrible outfit, when compared to some of the other mother's outfits (aka Emily's mom), it's just meh.

Creepy Ian. Are those khaki-colored jeans?? How did Spencer ever want to kiss this?

We find out in this episode that Melissa is pregnant. Ian already has the 'dad' outift down.

I can't figure Melissa out, which makes me dislike her, but then I see her clothes and it's hard to keep hating her. The colorful cardigan pairs really well with a slightly sparkly top. Very age-appropriate.

Again, a comfy sweater, cute top and jeans. As for the whole "I'm-pregnant-with-Ian" thing...weird.

Je Suis une Amie - Part 2 of 2 - The Singletons (at least this week)

Ok, Aria. Not my favorite week for her. I like the dress. I like the boots. I LOVE the earrings. But I'm hating all these cropped jackets she's been wearing AND she's wearing fishnets...je n'aime pas.

Close-up of Aria's best choice of earrings yet. I've liked the feathery ones, but the combination of a leaf covered in gold is exactly my style (and the characters should be dressing in my style, right?).

I didn't think these earrings were so great since Aria usually chooses something bolder, but her spiderweb necklace is an edgy touch and is the best part of this ensemble.

I couldn't get a full-length shot of this outfit, but it's another cropped top (a sweater in this case)...ugh.

Matching rings on two different fingers, why haven't I thought of that before?

So these are Emily's shoes. The rest of the outfit that goes with this was Emily's standard: raglan tee and jeans.

Check out the studs (this is the most of the shoe we ever see unfortunately). Totally saved her outfit from being très boring.

Emily seriously finds the coolest t-shirts. The low-cut back is pretty original for a tee.

Then we see the front.  I know this is pj's, but come on Emily. Those sweatpants are SO not flattering.

Do we really think this is Shay Mitchell? Look at those rippling, leg muscles. Ridic.

Spencer ventured into Parisien chic territory. I can't decide oui ou non? J'aime from the back...

But are the sleeves too much?

Now covered up, I know I like her tunic. J'ADORE the cape-like jacket. It's almost as if Spencer is stepping into the UES and is gazing up at Blake Lively's skyscraper legs.

Clearly Spencer couldn't quite follow through on the French trend. A beret over a plain, knit shirt and jeans looks unfinished. However, minus the beret, typical high school girl attire...props for that.

Toby so has that wounded puppy dog look down. You can't help but sympathize for him.

I love that the teen boys of Rosewood dress like a real teen boys of Rosewood (if it actually exists somewhere) would dress. Casual, but thankfully not baggy and not Ed Hardy-esque.

Paige has such a "I'm-gonna-kill-you-and-eat-you-for-dinner" look on her face. Scary! So I coudn't help but include it!

Mini Recap: Je Suis une Amie

Hottie Caleb gets more of a storyline and more of Hanna's affections (kind of).

Drama-rama du jour
We finally get some scoop on Caleb.  Spencer is changing her opinions on Toby (and I'm thinking secret crushing).

Best Outfit
One outfit didn't really stand out, but I like Hanna's gray jacket at left; (not at left) Aria's boots and dress combo; and I think I'm kinda liking Spencer's ivory, striped, ruched-sleeved tunic.

Best "A" Message
"Caleb's quiet. But how R U gonna shut me up?"

Current "A" suspect
For a brief second--maybe Caleb, but Ian's still tops.

Kate (me, your PLL editor) is bringing you the full recap and all of Caleb's yumminess this week!
