It’s Mateo’s first birthday, you guys! Can you believe it’s been a whole television year already? Obviously, Jane is over planning the big party to celebrate the little man, but in true Jane fashion, she’s also planning her wedding to Michael at the same time. Meanwhile, Rafael is teaming up with Petra to deceive Derek, and Jane is trying her best to keep Rafael on the up and up (so to speak) and go to the police.

So Jane’s got everything under control with both wedding and first birthday party planning, and she’s recruited everyone to help out.

Jane really has a thing for those olive jeans, right? But I’m giving golf claps to Xo’s romper here, though you can only see the top part here, sorry!), but the colors are cool, and I’m digging the abstract pattern today.

While all that overly controlled chaos is happening, Rafael is given a decision deadline by Derek over the sale of the hotel he bought with money obtained through less than legal means.

I like the bright blue on Rafael. It’s a nice departure from the pastels, no? Unfortunately, Rafael still hasn’t decided what he’s going to do.

Luckily, Jane and Petra are around to play tug of war with Rafael, and continue their ongoing feud.

I guess Jane won this one.

On a slightly related tangent, Rogelio is running the writers and crew meeting for the week, and has been informed that the crew are going to be striking starting on the Friday before Jane’s wedding.

No need to panic (as my son would say), and Jane’s taking things in her usual stride, compromising, and ready to shift everything to the Thursday before.

This slightly folksy dress is to die for. I love this cut on Jane (or me, if anyone’s looking to send me a present…), and she wears it for a good portion of the episode, so hurrah!

Again, Jane’s faithful minions are hard at work rearranging her wedding plans, and, as it turns out, Mateo’s birthday plans when the entertainer for his party cancels over a scheduling conflict.

Xiomara for the win again in this emerald romper lining up killer backup entertainers. I wonder if her romper closet rivals Jess’s vast pajama wardrobe over on New Girl?

Jane calls Rafael to get him on board with entertainment changes, and discovers that he’s in a “closed door” meeting with Petra, which can only mean one thing… Conspiring!

It looks like Petra is wearing the waitstaff dresses from The Marbella, doesn’t it? Love the white tuxedo jacket, though.

Jane does manage to disrupt the meeting temporarily to invite Rafael to check out the new birthday act, but the Petra vs. Jane competition wages on and obviously Petra tags along.

I like this casual, colorful trio. I’m always a fan of casual Rafael (yum), but Jane and Petra are super breezy looking, despite the icy undertones. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, cornflower blue is Petra’s color, and Rafael is going with Petra’s plan vis-a-vis his brotherly extortion problem. Petra for the win!

And while Jane’s losing the battle over Rafael, Rogelio is making good on his bet to work as a crew member for one week to get the crew to postpone their strike until after the wedding.

And he’s flourishing in lavender cargo shorts. Obviously. That is until he needs to change a light that’s up in the rafters, and his crippling fear of heights takes over. Luckily Jane is on hand to push him into finishing what he started, and the crew makes good on their promise to postpone their strike. Unfortunately, Mateo isn’t feeling well, and Jane has to take him to the hospital to be kept under observation overnight.

After a night of reminiscing over his past year (I’m not crying, you are!), Jane and Rafael celebrate making it through a whole year of co-parenting, even if they did need to cancel Mateo’s birthday party.

At least Jane’s family brought the party to the hospital, and Xo brought the style in yet another fab romper.

Back at the Marbella, after a long couple of days (or week), Jane has decided not to jump the gun when it comes to her career as she’s still developing.

She’s really into coral lately too, isn’t she? But she gives Michael the idea to dig underneath Derek’s newly acquired hotel (since Petra’s plan shockingly didn’t work) to find whatever Derek is looking for with the acquisition of this hotel…

And it turns out to be Rafael’s mother, the crime lord!

So I haven’t really been interested in that whole part of the storyline lately, but I’m glad that something is happening, and maybe Michael will get his job back and we can forget all about this Sin Rostro/Mutter nonsense and get on with life. No? Oh well, a girl can dream…
