Episode Synopsis: The Mercer parents are away, and that can only mean one thing – a bottle of vino, incessant amounts of PDA, and “Never Have I Ever”. Laurel and Justin continue being adorable, but Justin’s hiding something in his new place (which Ted generously helped him find). Emma’s trailer-trash brother Travis threatens Emma into giving him some of Sutton’s jewellery (which turn out to be Char’s old costume pieces) and when he figures out her deception, corners her while she is alone at home. Luckily, Ethan, our knight in shining plaid button-ups, comes to her rescue. Char and Derek are cute in a way that makes me want to puke, Mads is heartbroken after Eduardo is transferred to another hospital, and Thayer starts to fall for Emma. And as for the real Sutton? She’s stuck in a jail cell without an allergy pillow protector, but Alec manages to find her and pay her bail, only to meet Emma’s best friend Lexi (aka Vanessa Abrams) who speaks loudly and wears only one feather earring.
Not the greatest episode for Laurel, style-wise. We start off with a great cobalt scoop-neck and appropriate accessories, but then move onto a floral dress with gold lamé belt and purse. Tacky, but I’ll admit she looks cute. Then we descend into the horror that is this nude bustier with a peplum. A peplum. But hey, at least her accessories are limited and tasteful?
Her strapless plaid dress was adorable, especially paired with those nude pumps, but I especially loved Mads’ red-and-black striped dress. The sleeves have the most fabulous bandage-esque edge.
Not much to say about Char’s dress, other than that it was grey, floor-length, draped, accessorized nicely…and oh, it was fitting to wear to announce her husband’s candidacy, if it weren’t for the open back (which, in my opinion, saved the dress).
We also meet Lexi in this episode. From the few minutes of screen time she had, she managed to make a sizeable impression. It may be the crocheted top, or perhaps the jean shorts paired with fishnets. No? Maybe the red velvet booties. Or the copious amounts of jewellery. Or the fact that she is wearing a single feather as an earring.
In one swoop, she’s managed to remind us of Aria (the one feather earring), Jenny (the fishnets/shorts combo), and Vanessa (hardly a jewellery abundance issue goes by without a mention of V). That said, her and Sutton’s interactions are sure to be hilarious. We can only hope Sutton won’t pick up any fashion tips from Lexi as she continues to live without Sutton’s Closet of Dreams.
Although I have to admit, this outfit isn’t so bad. It’s remarkable she managed to keep those white cigarette pants white.
But Sutton, orange is so not your color.
Emma does alright in this episode, with a shapeless electric blue dress (but killer orange heels) and black-and-brocade dress. And then there’s the patterned silk blouse. Looks like she borrowed it from Char, but no harm done, it’s rather cute.
But then you see the rest of the outfit. Oh no, you think–it can’t be–
But it is. Wide-legged high-waisted black pants. They’re not nearly as bad as Serena’s pepto-bismol pink ones. But still. With Sutton’s Closet of Dreams at her disposal, you would think she’d pick out a black pencil skirt at least.
(Am I terrible for wanting Sutton back just to see what she’d wear from her closet? No? Didn’t think so.)
I’d be angry too, Emma, if someone made me wear those.
